Global Impact Update: Scale Up of a Contraceptive App

October 25, 2017

As part of our commitment to FP2020, Cycle Technologies is providing free contraception to women globally. We've worked closely with researchers to see how the CycleBeads Android app  works in a number low-resource countries with high unmet contraceptive need. These countries include Ghana, India, Jordan, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, and Madagascar.

What does the research say?

1) The CycleBeads app is easy to use and women are able to use it correctly to prevent pregnancy, plan or simply track.

2) In every low resource country where it has been offered, a majority of women who use the CycleBeads app to prevent pregnancy, are not using contraception in the three months prior to download.

3) This free contraceptive app, can reach users directly and efficiently.

4) Almost all those using the CycleBeads app, would recommend it to a friend.

We still have a long way to go to address the needs of the 214 million women around the world who have unmet contraceptive need. But, providing innovative contraceptive options like the CycleBeads app (and soon the Dot app!), is helping to solve the problem.
